Melissa Reddy has cast doubt on Liverpool’s chances of landing either Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland in the summer.
Jurgen Klopp has already ruled out Erling Haaland as a target, saying it would be “no fun” signing the Norwegian which could be in reference to the wages the Leeds-born forward is demanding.
It cannot be about the player himself as the 1,94m striker is lethal and the thought of him potentially ending up at Manchester City fills me with dread.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Melissa Reddy said: “Liverpool’s forward line currently reads: Salah, Mane, Diaz, Jota, Firmino – what do you think?
“That’s even before you factor in elements like wage demands.
“When was the last time Liverpool bought a proper blockbuster name? None of their attackers now were considered such at the time of purchase.”
How Liverpool could sign Kylian Mbappe with ‘freedom of movement’ clause
According to Ian McGarry, Liverpool had a plan to sign Kylian Mbappe which gave him control over his career and not the club.

He said last summer: “Our understanding is that while Liverpool can’t necessarily afford a transfer fee in the region of what Chelsea paid for Romelu Lukaku, they can afford a move for Mbappe under freedom of contract next summer (now just a few months away) when he will be out of his current deal with PSG.”
He continued: “It is information reported to us that Liverpool are pursuing and they believe they have an opportunity in which they may be able to get Mbappe for two or three years if they include a get-out clause in his contract, which would be signed under freedom of movement.”
Liverpool would still need to find a dynamically incentivised contract specifically for the French star to ensure it reflects his contributions to the side because there is no way Fenway Sports Group would pay him what Real Madrid are reportedly willing to.
