Liverpool have a plan to complete marquee signing for £105m ace but he wants risky 'freedom of movement clause'

According to Ian McGarry, Liverpool have a plan to sign Kylian Mbappe which gives him control over his career and not the club.

The Frenchman got back on the scoresheet for Paris Saint-Germain last night as they unveiled their new signings in front of a noisy Parc des Princes.

The 22-year-old reminded supporters that while Lionel Messi has arrived, he still means business after he scored 42 times last season.

According to McGarry, Liverpool could sign Mbappe if they included a 'freedom of movement' clause in his contract.

He said: “Our understanding is that while Liverpool can’t necessarily afford a transfer fee in the region of what Chelsea paid for Romelu Lukaku, they can afford a move for Mbappe under freedom of contract next summer, when he will be out of his current deal with PSG.

“Of course, the wages will be substantial, but again, Mbappe is interested in making the move to Liverpool, something that Jurgen Klopp has a central role in, in regards to Mbappe’s respect and admiration for the German coach.

“We know that Real Madrid are interested as well and that will be an option for him. However, it is information reported to us that Liverpool are pursuing and they believe they have an opportunity in which they may be able to get Mbappe for two or three years if they include a get-out clause in his contract, which would be signed under freedom of movement.

“So Mbappe would be in charge of his future in terms of leaving Liverpool at the point he wants to, so his career plan would be one he’s completely in charge of.”

From Mbappe's perspective, it makes perfect sense as a player of his ability becomes so expensive when he is under contract that it's almost as if it's impossible to leave.

We would need to learn more about what the clause is about to comment on it but if it would allow him to leave for free after three years, it would be a massive risk from Liverpool.

While the Reds would potentially be getting him on a free transfer next summer, they'd be paying him silly wages and let's say the worst happened and Liverpool didn't win a single trophy during his time at the club.

Just like PSG, the club has invested massively into the 22-year-old on a personal level and then if he was able to walk away for free, Liverpool would be left high and dry.

Including a release clause would make far more sense and setting at a realistic amount would allow Mbappe the 'freedom of movement' he apparently craves.

I understand. He feels as though he has no say in his future but if he was granted that clause, he could flit from around Europe as he pleased.

It's going to be interesting to follow his story over the next year especially now that Lionel Messi is in Paris.

Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up a €120million (£105m) bid to sign Mbappe so it might not be possible to wait until next summer to sign the Frenchman but it seems unlikely he'll leave with the team now assembled in Paris.
