Klopp tipped to sign 'wonderful' Wijnaldum replacement by embarrassing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Klopp tipped to sign 'wonderful' Wijnaldum replacement by embarrassing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Liverpool have been told by Ajax legend Sjaak Swart that Donny van de Beek would be the ideal Georginio Wijnaldum replacement and Jurgen Klopp could embarrass Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by signing him.

The Dutch midfielder has had a miserable time at Old Trafford this season following what really should have been a massive move in his career but Manchester United have wasted his talent on the bench.

He traded Amsterdam for Manchester, joining the Red Devils for a reported £35m fee but has been unable to force his way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side which is bizarre given that Bruno Fernandes has needed a rest since January.

Yet, van de Beek made just 15 starts in all competitions and managed just 1 goal and 1 assist.

Speaking to Veronica Inside, as quoted by Soccernews.nl, Ajax legend Sjaak Swart had this to say about van de Beek: “He played really great at Ajax, until he left. He was ready for abroad. But at United, they have 8 or 9 midfielders, and you have to intervene, then it takes time.

“That is a choice [about his future] he has to make himself, whether he feels like he needs to leave. I am not worried about him.

"He would fit in like that at other clubs. If I look at Liverpool and Wijnaldum is leaving now, he will be a wonderful replacement. Or Thomas Müller, at Bayern Munich."

It's understandable that van de Beek is behind Fernandes in the pecking order given that the Portuguese scored and assisted a total of 45 goals at club level this season but van de Beek is too good to be sitting on the bench and should leave the club.

In his final season for Ajax, van de Beek got 10 goals and 11 assists, including three in five games in the Champions League.

He was also part of that Ajax side that reached the semis of the competition in 2018/19, playing liquid football before Spurs' Lucas Moura scored a superb hat-trick to send the London side to the Champions League final where they were soundly beaten by Liverpool.

That was his best season for the Dutch side as he got 17 goals and 13 assists, taking his total goal contributions for that campaign to 30.

It's fairly obvious to even the least observant football fan out there that Liverpool are highly unlikely to sign him from Manchester United this summer but doing so would embarrass Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, exposing his ineptitude.

The Norwegian has consistently made errors that prove he is out of his depth at this level and Klopp bringing van de Beek to Anfield would be the nail in the coffin as far as him being a serious manager is concerned.
