Liverpool ready to blow Manchester United out of the water with €50million bid
According to Spanish outlet AS, Liverpool are ready to blow Manchester United out of the water with a €50million offer to sign Cristian Romero.
Liverpool signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig at the end of May who is set to start the 2021/22 Premier League season in the starting XI and yet the Reds are still being linked with centre-halves.
Romero to Anfield doesn't make much sense to me but the links continue to appear and from several different publications.
What are the rumours about Romero?
Calciomercato reports that Liverpool have ‘come forward’ for the defender but Manchester Utd have yet to ‘take concrete steps for Romero.’
Sky Italia claims that Jurgen Klopp's side has asked for information about his contractual situation while there is interest from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Spanish publication AS now claims that Liverpool are ready to blow Manchester United out of the water with a €50million offer but it's a complicated transfer. If you ignore the lack of a need for centre-back, you still need to factor in his loan to Atalanta from Juventus.
Gian Piero Gasperini is keen to make his move to Stadio di Bergamo permanent but Juve, as per Tuttosport, will only listen to 'crazy' offers in the region of €60million which, as I said on the 13th of June, would be terrible business from Liverpool.
Liverpool not in the market for a defender
Sources close to Anfield Central have not been told that Jurgen Klopp will sign another central defender and after signing Konate, it wouldn't make much sense to reinforce that area of the pitch.
Liverpool need a midfielder and at least one forward and while I'd argue that a right-back is needed, the Reds are currently not planning on signing one. Neco Williams could go out on loan but even then, there are no plans to replace him.
Joe Gomez, James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have all played there in the last couple of years while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can also do a job there if totally necessary.
Signing Romero for anything near €60million would be a gross misallocation of resources and if it happens I would be hugely shocked. I'm not sure where the story is coming from but it likely comes from Juventus to raise the price but as far as I am aware, there is no truth in the story.
