AS says that there is nothing to suggest that Jurgen Klopp will miss out on Florian Neuhaus from Borussia Monchengladbach.
Earlier this week, Florian Plettenberg reported for Sport1 that Klopp wants Neuhaus after talks were held. Liverpool are yet to make an offer but are set to pursue their interest in the player after the EUROs.
Now, Spanish outlet AS reports that “everything indicates” Jurgen Klopp will make Neuhaus his second signing of the summer following Ibrahima Konate’s confirmed move to Anfield.
The 24-year-old is a silky midfielder that thrives under pressure and after losing Georginio Wijnaldum, it looks as though Liverpool will replace him with someone who is similarly good at resisting opposition press.
Neuhaus moving to Liverpool would likely signal a change in style as he is best when he’s the deepest midfielder where he can dictate play. This would mean he would either be in a double pivot with Fabinho or he would be played as a no.8 in the same way that Gini was.
Interestingly, Football Insider claims that Liverpool are planning on moving Thiago into a more advanced role next season and given that a central playmaker hasn’t been used utilised since Phil Coutinho moved to Barcelona, it would be a fascinating setup.
Fabinho, Thiago and Neuhaus would be a creative, high pressing combination and would certainly see the front three receive the support it needs.
It would certainly improve Liverpool’s counter-attacking prospects as crosses from fullbacks wouldn’t be as heavily relied upon.
Neuhaus does not have a release clause in his Gladbach contract after it expired which means that the Reds could negotiate a payment structure like the one that saw Thiago join from Bayern Munich.
It will help Liverpool conserve transfer funds to invest in a new attacker as Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri get set for summer exits.
