"Without a shadow of a doubt" - £90,000/week star tipped to become Liverpool "mainstay"

After he helped Liverpool put Arsenal to the sword, Ian Wright tipped Diogo Jota to become a mainstay for the Reds, with his goalscoring form earning widespread praise.

The Metro quote Wrighty as saying: "What Jota brings, apart from the work-rate, the press, is the goals, the impact.

“You look at him now and think, yeah, he’s probably one of those that Liverpool have got who can come on. He can easily get 15 or 20 goals a season. We’re talking about not being there for so long and he’s in, scoring goals and you feel he’s just going to be a mainstay, without a shadow of a doubt.”

Since signing in the summer, Jota has become an essential squad member for the Anfield side and this is in spite of the posterior cruciate ligament that he suffered in December.

Although he missed 82 days through injury, Jota has scored 12 goals for the Reds this season not to mention the 8 goal contributions he has for Portugal in competitive fixtures this season.

His arrival at Liverpool has really placed pressure on Roberto Firmino to perform after his standards dropped a little bit. It was pleasing to see both players on the pitch against Arsenal, with the Brazilian dropping deeper into midfield while Jota played as the number nine.

Jota will be crucial to Liverpool's chances of success during the end of season run-in with his finishing and dribbling so important for Liverpool right now. His ability to turn and roll opposition defenders is so effortless and is a nightmare for rival players to defend.

Real Madrid host the Reds tomorrow night in the Champions League and if the Portugal international is selected, he will no doubt play a big part in deciding the game.
