€25m Liverpool target is a 'fabulous footballer' - talks held with his agents already

Ian Wright says that Liverpool target Pedri is a 'fabulous footballer' after his wonderful EURO 2020 performances caught the eye this summer.

After the 18-year-old helped Spain reached the quarter-finals with an eye-catching, mature display at the heart of a talented midfield, he has received widespread praise.

He played 90 minutes of the 5-3 goal thriller against Croatia and despite the mania of the match, he kept his head and brought composure to the Spain engine room.

The Reds appear to be after his signature, as per Mundo Deportivo, via Daily Star, who suggests that Liverpool are interested in signing Pedri this summer and have put him on their list of transfer targets following Gini Wijnaldum’s move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool already held talks with his agent

Jurgen Klopp will battle to sign the teenager as he has a £70m release clause but after the Mirror claimed in April that Liverpool spoke to the player’s agents, there is certainly an interest in the player.

As I've said before, "a £70million release clause is expensive, but given his age and the ceiling on his potential, it could prove to be a bargain."

Ian Wright waxes lyrical about Pedri

Speaking on the Wrighty's House podcast, the Arsenal icon showed his admiration for the Barcelona star after his strong display at the European Championships.

“Pedri is awesome, he is awesome. I said that he came from La Masia, but he actually came from Las Palmas for £5m, he is fabulous, he is a fabulous footballer,” Wright said.

Barcelona signed the Spaniard for just €5m but, according to Football Espana, the fee could rise to €25m if certain clauses are triggered.

What would Pedri add to Liverpool's midfield?

The 18-year-old would be quite different from the players that have already been linked with Liverpool but much like Thiago Alcantara, he'd be a technically gifted option for Klopp to call on.

He's most effective in the final third of the pitch where he can use his clever movement and incisive passing to great effect.

Pedri is unlike any midfielders currently in the club's ranks and I would simply love it if Jurgen Klopp made a move to sign him but it's unlikely given the clause in his contract.

Thiago Alcantara says Pedri is part of the old guard.
