Sky Sports reports that 18-year-old could be crucial to Liverpool transfer saga

Sky Sports report that Barcelona are considering promoting Ilaix Moriba instead of signing Georginio Wijnaldum this summer with his contract standoff with the Reds continuing.

The Dutch midfielder is yet to agree to a new contract with Liverpool despite repeated attempts from the Reds and with just three months remaining on his terms, it's do or die time.

The report from Sky Sports suggest that Barcelona are growing tired of the drawn-out saga with Wijnaldum. From a Liverpool perspective, it could suggest Gini is partial to staying at Liverpool and is simply holding out for the best contract offer he can get.

18-year-old Ilaix Moriba has been a revelation for Barcelona this season. The academy graduate has scored once and assisted three times in La Liga this term in just five appearances.

Barcelona are considering promoting him over Wijnaldum and I'm all for it if it means Liverpool hold onto the Dutchman. He's been a consistent performer for Liverpool since joining from Newcastle United.

While he started on the bench against Arsenal, he came on in the second half and helped his side see out a huge win in the battle to finish in the top four this season. His pace, energy and press-resistant ability to hold onto the ball were important in the last 15 minutes of the game.

It seems as though this saga will be drawn out even longer than it already has but the longer it goes on, the more the Anfield outfit will be partial to withdrawing their contract offer and signing an alternative.
