Liverpool don’t seem satisfied with their record-breaking summer transfer window. It was a surprise event considering Arne Slot’s first summer as the Reds manager was pretty quiet.
After only signing two players, the Dutchman looked pragmatic in 2024 after Jürgen Klopp’s departure. Already having a Premier League-ready squad, the gaffer was focused on adding “layers” as fans were concerned about tumultuous times.
However, summer 2025 was different as Slot started an overhaul post the Klopp era. He wanted to make a statement in the transfer market after spending £440m+.
Although most of the money came from player sales as Anfield saw some high-profile departures. Henceforth, Arsenal were the ones who spent the most net in the transfer market.
Nevertheless, Arne Slot broke the market by beating the British transfer record twice. The first signing that achieved the same was Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a deal worth £116m.
The German was one of the most wanted midfielders on the market. An attack-oriented, creative, goal-scoring midfielder who could also assist was just the man Liverpool were looking for.
Then came in Alexander Isak as Newcastle United cashed in £125m from the transfer. Unwilling to let their attacking gem leave, Isak had to take the hard route out of St. James Park.

Adam Wharton wants Liverpool transfer despite Real Madrid interest

The Reds’ appetite isn’t full yet as Arne Slot continues the investment in young and proven players. Adam Wharton is another on the list, but Liverpool’s interest wasn’t confirmed until recent reports.
According to Dave Ockop, Liverpool are pretty serious about the midfielder. It is also reported that Wharton is keen on moving to Merseyside.
Real Madrid have shown great interest in the 21-year-old midfielder, but the Blackburn native is keen on staying in the Isles. The transfer is expected to exceed £60m, no matter which club ends up signing the England international.
A very young but mature midfielder, Wharton displays mental and technical solidity despite only playing senior football for three seasons.
Slot seems to be going in for Adam in January, but it also depends on the Reds’ wider transfer strategy for the winter. The Englishman’s contract runs until the end of the 2028-29 season.
Despite a depth crisis in the defence, the Dutch manager seems to be pretty confident regarding Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni. Ibrahima Konaté is expected to be sold in January, hence a Marc Guéhi deal is also expected in the winter.
