PGMOL make swift decision on David Coote after Liverpool video emerges

The Professional Game Match Officials Board have decided to take swift action against a match official after he appeared to use expletives against Liverpool and former Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

The integrity of referees in England plunged into crisis earlier today after a video emerged where a premier match official was seen using colourful language against the Merseyside giants and their former beloved boss.

David Coote was in charge of Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Anfield just two days back but now his career as a professional referee is in question after the aforementioned video emerged appearing to show him use expletives to describe Liverpool.

A video emerged earlier today on social media where he is seen with an unnamed man and called Liverpool ‘s***’ and Klopp a ‘c***’, which has outraged the Premier League giants’ fans.

The PGMOL have been forced into making a quick call after confirming earlier they would investigate the decision.

David Coote has been suspended pending a full investigation after Liverpool comments

PGMOL opened their investigations into the matter as soon as the video emerged on social media and they have already taken a swift decision.

The 42-year-old match official has been suspended from the PGMOL until full investigations are completed and a verdict is reached.

Coote won’t be officiating another professional match in England as long as the investigations do not reach a decisive conclusion.

It’s a smart decision by the PGMOL given the nature of the video, but it must be stressed that the full context of the video is not yet understood. Equally, the PGMOL is said to be investigating the “timing” and “validity” of the video according to Sky Sports.

A PGMOL statement read: “David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete.”

The full context of the video has yet to be ascertained.

Liverpool and their fans hope to see Coote’s conduct get investigated as football clubs and their supporters expect referees to keep their inherent biases out of their decision-making.

PGMOL’s investigations will be widely scrutinised as match officials come under more and more pressure to make the right call amidst allegations of injustices from fans across the country.

With the international break set to start, PGMOL will hope there will be calm around the situation once the Premier League returns to action in less than two weeks.

Again, it must be clear that the context of the video and its validity is not yet ascertained with suggestions it could even be AI. But that is for the PGMOL to determine.
