Pep Guardiola demands Liverpool target in January

Liverpool have an eight-point lead over Manchester City in the Premier League title race. The gap could grow further if the Reds beat the reigning Premier League champions at Anfield on Sunday.

Arne Slot’s team could deliver a knockout blow to Manchester City’s hopes of winning a fifth straight title this early in the season if they beat them at home this weekend.

The Premier League champions managed to end their five-game losing streak on Tuesday night but the 3-3 draw against Feyenoord at the Etihad raised more questions than answers for Guardiola.

The English champions are staring down a crisis and Guardiola is looking at the winter transfer window to find remedies and bring in players who could revive them in the latter half of the season.

The Manchester City manager’s priority is to sign a defensive midfielder who can replace the injured Rodri and the Spaniard has their eyes on a top midfield target for Liverpool.

Guardiola wants midfielder wanted by Slot

Manchester City are missing Rodri’s presence at the heart of their midfield and Mateo Kovacic’s injury has further exacerbated their problems.

The Premier League champions want to sign a defensive midfielder in January and according to Fichajes, Guardiola has asked the club to go all out for Martin Zubimendi.

Liverpool wanted to sign the Real Sociedad midfielder last summer but the Spaniard rejected the chance to leave the Spanish club.

However, Zubimendi is said to be regretting his decision and wants to leave Real Sociedad in the winter transfer window.

Manchester City are prepared to push and deliver Zubimendi to Guardiola in Janaury.

With the midfielder believed to be keen on leaving the Anoeta, Manchester City are prepared to beat Liverpool to the signature of Zubimendi in the upcoming transfer window.

He has a €60m release clause in his contract and Manchester City are likely to trigger it while offering him a lucrative contract to move to Etihad.

Manchester City need a result at Anfield on Sunday but they are now getting ready to go head-to-head with Liverpool for the Spain midfielder in January.
