Paul Scholes makes shock admission about Liverpool

Former Manchester United players like Paul Scholes rarely speak well of Liverpool.

The rivalry between the two clubs is deep, and both hold serious claims to being the best in England. This season, the two clubs could not have more different campaigns. Manchester United are struggling near midtable. Liverpool on the other hand, are top of the Premier League with a game in hand. The on field success of the reds has been a major talking point this campaign.

Liverpool could yet end the season with more silverware. Despite exiting the FA Cup to Plymouth, the chase for the treble is still on. Arne Slot could end his first season in charge with major silverware.

Alexander Isak has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season. His performances have raised rumours that the striker will move to a big club this summer. Liverpool will reportedly be in the market for attacking options as Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez have been linked with moves away from Anfield.

Paul Scholes implied that the reds are a serious option for Isak, because they are on the path to winning silverware:

“Everyone loves him but I don’t see a possibility of him going to Arsenal,” Scholes said on The Overlap. “He needs to go bigger and better.

“We’re talking about Real Madrid here, Liverpool need a centre forward. I think Arsenal would be an option but I think they would be down the list of options.

“I don’t mean that in a bad way but he’s at Newcastle, a really good team, a brilliant team, but they’re not going to win league titles, that’s the next stage of his career. I think it would be a risk to go to Arsenal and do the same thing. Liverpool have got a much better chance…”

Isak will have a grand audition in the next month, when Liverpool face Newcastle in the League Cup final.

Isak should be priority for the reds this summer

Paul Scholes is right, a player like Isak is tailor made for Liverpool. With multiple reports that Liverpool will offload Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, this summer is the best chance to sign a new striker. The Newcastle forward has been in phenomenal form this season, scoring 17 goals in the Premier League.

He also a great fit for the style Arne Slot wants to play. Isak is clinical in front of goal and is able to drop deep and connect play. The transfer fee may be the only stumbling block as the Magpies may demand close to £100million. Selling both Jota and Nunez might raise a similar fee, which could be reinvested.

Alexander Isak would be a statement signing for Liverpool. The Premier League would be put on notice that the reds are serious contenders.
