Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell has been made available by the Canaries this month and they are looking to recoup £15 million, according to the Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Liverpool appreciate Cantwell, who is free to leave Norwich this month

In August last year, 90Min reported that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ‘appreciates’ the 23-year-old midfielder and with Norwich destined to be relegated this season, they are looking to cash in on the midfielder.

Jarrod Bowen was also mentioned as another English talent that Klopp is an admirer of and recently, the Reds have been tipped to have a £60million bid accepted for the West Ham star although I doubt that’s forthcoming from FSG.

Cantwell has had a frustrating season, scoring just once in 10 games and with 6 months on his contract at Carrow Road, Norwich City are looking to cut their losses and cash in and Liverpool could be a team tempted to take a punt.

David Ornstein writes: “Norwich have decided that Cantwell can leave in January if an acceptable offer arrives – they are seeking a fee in excess of £15 million.”

Cantwell could be very good for Liverpool but it’s risky

The midfielder has talent and Premier League experience but signing him is risky.

Liverpool have signed players that have been relegated before and I’m certain they’ll do it again as it’s a great way to sign players at a discounted price and our owners are the type to bargain shop as opposed to chase after the most exciting young talents in the world.

Cantwell is a fantastic player and he’s got the pressing, passing, dribbling and technical traits that are required to flourish under Klopp at Anfield but Liverpool would be better moving on from their interest in the Englishman.

They would be better off signing a player with experience playing in the Champions League and my first pick would be RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku.

Christopher Nkunku

The Frenchman is one of the most technically adept players in his age category in Europe and he’s got the numbers to match this season as well, has played in a high-pressing unit, Liverpool have a great relationship with RB Leipzig and he’s still only 24.

In 25 games this season, the Bundesliga ace has 15 goals and 10 goals and so the battle for his signature when he does move on from Leipzig will be fierce and I just hope the Reds are at the front of the queue when the bidding starts.

Transfermarkt reports that he is worth around £50million but I would be shocked if he was allowed to leave for so little given that his contract only expires in 2024 and they aren’t in a position where they’re forced to sell.
