Divock Origi has attracted major interest from three Italian clubs, with the forward only having six months to go on his remaining deal.
The Belgian international has played ten games in all competitions, scoring five goals. What makes this even more impressive is the fact that he has only started four of those games.
Origi, however, may wait until the summer to assess all of his options. If an English club wanted to sign him this month, it would cost them around £10 million.
His contract could automatically be extended if he starts enough Premier League games, but he has still yet to start for the Reds this season in the Premier League.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s last-gasp win against Wolves in December, Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for Origi, saying: “He’s one of the best finishers I have ever seen in my life. In this great team, with our front three, he doesn’t play all the time but he is a very positive boy.”
Klopp also hinted that his time may be up at Liverpool.
“I hope one day he finds a manager that plays him more often than I do.”
The pros and cons of Divock Origi
Origi is, of course, a cult hero for Kopites across the world. He has scored some of the most iconic goals in the club’s history, including a last-minute winner in the Merseyside derby and the goal against Barcelona that took Liverpool to the Champions League final.
If Origi does leave this month, it leaves Liverpool without a backup striker.
Origi hasn’t always been the most reliable option from the bench. His barren run last season was a hindrance to a Liverpool side who needed goals.
When Origi went one on one with Burnley’s Nick Pope in January last year, everyone thought he was going to give the Reds the lead. However, his shot went over the bar.
The Clarets took advantage of this, and in the 83rd minute, Ashley Barnes converted a penalty to give Burnley a shock 1-0 win.
If Origi had scored his big chance earlier in that game, that wouldn’t have been a worry for Liverpool.
Despite this, Origi has been important to Liverpool. Aside from 2017-18, when he was on loan at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, he has scored goals in spells for the club.
Regardless of his inconsistency, Origi’s contribution to Liverpool will always be appreciated.
He is a legend and will go down in the history books as the man who brought the European Cup back to Anfield.
