Sadio Mane was Liverpool's 'best player' - PL striker claims the club 'didn't need to sell'

West Ham's Michail Antonio has described Sadio Mane as 'Liverpool's best player' and that he doesn't feel the club needed to sell him.

Bayern Munich was Mane's choice for a summer move, as he moved onto a completely new challenge in Germany after six years at the club.

Fans were sad to see the Senegalese international leave, given he had become a fan favourite and a player always capable of a moment of magic.

Speaking as part of a new podcast involving Antonio and Newcastle's Callum Wilson - the pair discussed the loss of Mane and how it could affect Liverpool going forward.

Michail Antonio's comments on Sadio Mane

“I don’t feel like they needed to sell him, I think that rivalry they had and that push that Mane was giving Salah and that Salah was giving to Mane, I think that was good for Liverpool.” Antonio told Callum Wilson, who is also a part of the podcast.

“They had that rivalry on the pitch and demanded the best from each other. That rivalry they had and everything they had was good for Liverpool.”

"In my eyes, Mane was your best player, overall he was your best player!" Antonio added.

Mane was an ever-present figure in Klopp's 4-3-3 since the Senegal international joined in 2016. He grew over the years to become the perfect foil for Mohamed Salah and even grew as a player to the point where he was able to spearhead the Liverpool attack in a central role.

His loss will impact the team, but with the new(ish) signings of Luis Dias and Darwin Nunez, the club can kick on and kick off a new chapter. One that will hopefully be as exciting and successful as the one that came before.
