Player Klopp sold without playing once will make his first appearance at Anfield in the UCL following 'nightmare' spell

An ex-Liverpool player will finally get a chance to play at Anfield against the Reds in the Champions League following his 'nightmare' spell at the club.

The Reds were drawn into Group A which features Ajax, Liverpool, Napoli and Rangers.

They re-ignite their rivalry with Napoli and Ajax, having faced them on regular intervals in recent years and they also Rangers in what will be the first competitive fixture between the two sides.

It will be a special game not only for the club and the fans but for former player Ben Davies, who infamously joined Liverpool and never played a single minute before moving to the Scottish club and now he has the chance to show the Liverpool fans what he's all about.

Finally gets his chance

When Davies signed for Liverpool back in 2021 amidst a defensive injury crisis, he wouldn't have expected to have exited the club without making a single appearance at all, never mind just playing at Anfield in a competitive game.

He spent the whole 2021/22 season on loan at Sheffield United and didn't play a single minute from joining in January 2021 until the end of the 2020/21 season.

Now at Rangers, he will get his chance to play at Anfield finally but it will be against Liverpool in the Champions League group stages.

There's also a return to Ajax for Calvin Bassey, who Davies replaced, who are always in the same group.

The Reds face Ajax, who they faced in the 2020/21 UCL Group Stages, scoring narrow one nil victories home and away. They will face them for only the fifth time in total in their history, with the first meeting coming in the knockout stages of the 1966/67 season.

Napoli also are a familiar foe, having faced them in back-to-back UCL campaigns during the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons. The Italian side have proved to a tough test for the Merseyside club, edging out Liverpool both times at the Diego Maradona Stadium.

They got their revenge at home in the 18/19 season winning one nil and were miraculously saved by Alisson in stoppage time from exiting the competition in the 2019/20 season. There's definitely history here and it proves that it won't be a straightforward task at all.

Liverpool vs Rangers in the Champions League will be a historic moment for both clubs - with both boasting great trophy-laden histories, it will be a must-watch encounter when these two meet in Liverpool and at Ibrox.
