Liverpool told to secure £103m star target now - or risk missing out on the 'generational talent'

Liverpool have been issued a warning by a former player to secure their £103m target this summer rather than wait until next summer.

The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for a midfielder this summer but they are already stacked in that department.

With the signing of Fabio Carvalho earlier in the window, Liverpool's midfield has depth and quality but fans still crave more.

Former Reds’ right-back Glen Johnson believes the club should be going all out for star target Jude Bellingham this summer - rather than waiting until 2023.

Johnson's thoughts on Bellingham transfer

The Reds continue to be linked with Bellingham and the Liverpool Echo claims the Reds are strong admirers of the youngster.

Johnson, a former Liverpool, Portsmouth and Chelsea full-back, told GGRecon that Liverpool should not wait until 2023 as the player is ready to start and impact the team now.

"You’d usually operate a transfer like that with young players if they’re currently not good enough to get into your team," he told GGRecon when quizzed on a potential 2023 move being lined up this year.

"Jude could improve Liverpool’s team now. I see pros and cons for that sort of deal because Jude will have half an eye on Liverpool if they sign him before he leaves Dortmund.

"Of course, he would remain professional and do what he has to do for Dortmund but it would almost be impossible to not focus on your new club.

"If you’re going to spend the money then do the deal now because he’s good enough to play now anyway."

Why Liverpool should sign Bellingham:

The midfielder would be the perfect addition to Klopp’s three-man midfield – but he could also offer tactical flexibility as he can also play in a two-man midfield.

His passing, physical build and ball-carrying ability set him apart in Germany and his presence in midfield for a player his age is simply incredible.

Klopp reportedly has an ‘obsession’ with the midfield and even made personal phone calls to the player, according to Spanish publication Nacional.

Liverpool are well in the race for the midfielder, who surely will grace the Premier League during his career, but face stiff competition from the biggest clubs in the world.
