Liverpool duo have 81% win success when they play together - they are the key to success

A statistic has revealed that Liverpool's key midfield duo have an 81% win success rate when they both start together.

Thiago and Fabinho are nailed-on starters for Jurgen Klopp and both are essential to the way that Liverpool plays.

Given the regularity of injuries suffered by Thiago, the pair haven't played together as much as they would have liked.

As their record stands at high with an 81% win success rate - it seems the key for Liverpool is keeping both of them fit and firing as it clearly is a winning partnership in midfield.

Why are they so good together?

With their record standing at 26 wins and only two losses in 32 matches together, it seems the blueprint for success is right there for Klopp.

Fabinho sits at the base of the midfield as its anchor, screening and covering the defence as the protector. He ranks highly for tackles, interceptions and blocks - but also helps to recycle the ball and is always a passing option.

For that, he ranks in the 90th percentile for passes completed; a stat that is typically dominated by players in his position at the best sides in Europe who usually dominate the play.

Everyone knows how good Thiago is: he's a nine-time domestic league champion across three countries, a Champions League winner and has one appearance in the FIFA FIFPro World XI.

But he operates as the midfield creator in front of Fabinho, with his job to collect the ball and help find the attackers in advanced positions where they can hurt teams.

This is reflected in his stats which rank extremely highly in world football; he registers between the 84th-99th percentiles for shot-creating actions, passes completion, passes attempted, progressive carries and progressive passes.

Combining both of them allows Liverpool to be defensively and offensively sound as both players contribute to both areas of the pitch. Considering Thiago is now back fully fit and is unlikely to play at the World Cup for Spain this winter, he should be better placed to play more games and help Liverpool push on from now until the end of the season.

However, there is no direct Fabinho replacement which could be an issue, but Jordan Henderson can deputise there against weaker sides. The key for Liverpool is having those two fit and in the starting lineup and then the Reds stand a chance against anyone.
