Liverpool could sign the next Thierry Henry if they work negotiation miracle over £85M transfer fee

Liverpool could sign the next Thierry Henry if they can convince AC Milan to part with Raphael Leao for less than his £85M asking price.

The Reds just paid £85M to sign Darwin Nunez and are unlikely to part ways with a fee like that in the near future.

More so when you consider that Leao will have one year left on his contract when this season ends next year.

With his terms in Milan expiring relatively soon, they have entered into contract talks with the 6ft2 winger.

Raphael Leao wage demands an issue for AC Milan

The right situation for Liverpool to sign Leao may present itself at the end of the season.

He will be in the final year of his contract at the end of the summer transfer window and would be free to speak to clubs about a free transfer in January 2024.

An update from Corriere dello Sport claims that he has reached a deadlock in negotiations over a new deal with AC Milan.

Supposedly, the winger has demanded £6M/year (£115K/week) to stay at the San Siro which Milan are currently unwilling to pay.

A report from La Repubblica suggests that Milan would in the region of €100M (£85M) but that will be difficult due to his ticking time bomb of a contract.

Leao resembles a young Thierry Henry

Many online have noted the similarities in playing style between Leao and one of football's greatest ever in Thierry Henry.

While researching this article I was surprised (not really) to find out that they're exactly the same height. Both stand at 1.88m (6ft2).

It's rare that a player is able to move with the grace, agility and speed that Leao does all while being hugely effective in the final third.

Most interestingly, Leao - much like Henry - excels on the left wing and as a centre-forward where their blistering pace and muscly builds allow them to dominate defenders.

Jurgen Klopp is a massive fan of attackers that can compete in the air as it allows them to make the most of deliveries from out wide.

Last season, he was instrumental in AC Milan's Scudetto-winning campaign as he scored 11 goals and assisted 10.

Getting into double figures for goals and assists each is the jackpot for attackers and this season he has 3 goals and 4 assists in the Champions League and Serie A, suggesting his double-edged sword remains as sharp as ever.

If Liverpool could convince Milan to sell him for considerably less than £85M, they would have an incredible player on their hands that would replace much of what Sadio Mane took with him to Bavaria.
