Liverpool could sign Georginio Wijnaldum from PSG this summer as a stop-gap solution to their midfield crisis.

The Dutchman was a world-class operator for the Reds before PSG signed him.

He has since seen his stock divebomb and is now a 31-year-old, wasting the final years of his career on the bench.

Wijnaldum was named by Get French Football News as the Ligue 1 "Flop of the Season" but that shouldn't put Liverpool off in my view.

L'Equipe now reports that not only has he been transfer listed but he hasn't been named as part of their pre-season travelling party.

After not being offered a contract by Liverpool that matched his personal ambition, he left initially to join Barcelona before PSG gazumped their offer, signing him to a £180,000/week contract.

Reports say Georginio Wijnaldum could join Liverpool on loan

According to a report from late June from the Irish Daily Star, via the Paisley Gates, there were "whispers" that suggested a loan move for Wijnaldum was on the cards.

In my opinion, it's the perfect option for Liverpool.

It would give Wijnaldum a chance to return to Anfield where he knows he can be a major success and it ties Liverpool over to the 2023 summer when they could sign Jude Bellingham or another suitable target.

Would help Wijnaldum ahead of the 2022 World Cup

Liverpool need a midfielder but with none of their top targets available, Wijnaldum could come in on a one or two-year deal.

It would likely be far below what he earns at PSG but I'm sure he would take the chance to play regularly ahead of the World Cup later this year over wages having seen what it's like with the Paris outfit.

Despite being one of the Netherlands' most valuable players, Wijnaldum cannot be certain he will play in Qatar if he's sat on the bench.

It's a low-risk move for Liverpool and Wijnaldum while it would also offer PSG the chance to offload at least a portion of his huge wages.
