Report: Liverpool and Man Utd want EURO winner - Reds have already made a £60million bid
Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly both interested in Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella and it shouldn't come as a surprise after his displays at the EUROs.
Jurgen Klopp needs a central midfielder to fill the void left by Georginio Wijnaldum's departure to PSG and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in a precarious position with Paul Pogba.
The Dutchman left the club after his contract expired and he needs to be replaced as soon as possible.
Both Premier League managers are in need of a new central midfielder and while Liverpool and United are also said to be going head to head for Saul, they are apparently rivals for Italian EURO 2020 champions Barella as well.
Liverpool and United want Barella
According to Calciomercato, as cited by the Hard Tackle, Pogba's contractual situation has caused the Red Devils to consider Barella as an option.
Liverpool, as has been widely publicised, need to find a replacement for Wijnaldum and are yet to do so with the clock ticking on the 2021 summer transfer window.
Barella would be a sensational replacement even if he isn't a like for like swap as he's got an unbelievable understanding of the game.
A report from La Repubblica from July, via FC Inter News, claims that Liverpool had submitted a bid to the Italian outfit worth €70million (£60m) and while this been quashed, if there is truth behind the claim, we can assume the offer was promptly rejected as he is nearing a contract extension at the San Siro.
Are Liverpool going to sign anyone?
My gut says yes but my pessimism and my frustration at watching the likes of Man Utd sign Jadon Sancho and Rapha Varane makes me say no.
Last summer we started off promisingly by signing Kostas Tsimikas and then we signed Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota towards the end of the window.
This summer seems to be heading the same way after Ibrahima 'Ibou' Konate's deal was sealed before the window opened and now, with just over three weeks to go, nobody has a clue what's going on.
The most reliable sources like Paul Joyce, Neil Jones, James Pearce and Melissa Reddy are all very quiet which either means we are closing in on a new signing or two or we've got nothing in the works.
I struggle to believe it's the latter as Liverpool would be risking all their hard work over the last few years by standing still.
