Liverpool could repeat Diaz signing by stealing Man United's "top target" that the Reds could have signed 18 months ago

Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Brighton midfielder after a claim from Fabrizio Romano that the Ecuadorian is a top target for Manchester United.

According to the Italian journalist, the midfielder would push for an exit as the transfer window draws to a close on 11PM on September 1st.

Jurgen Klopp has made it very clear that he will not dip into the transfer market to solve his injury woes but could a late move for Caicedo tempt the German?

Reports suggest many clubs are tracking Caicedo

According to 90Min, in addition to United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona, Juventus and Atletico Madrid are all keeping tabs on the 20-year-old but Brighton do not want to lose him this summer.

The Seagulls "realise they have one of European football's most promising young players and insist he is not going anywhere."

"Brighton want to keep Caicedo so not an easy deal, in case Man Utd will decide to proceed."

United reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign Caicedo 18 months ago, passing up on a deal worth just €5M before Brighton signed him from Independiente del Valle.

Liverpool are tracking the 20-year-old but I believe there is an opportunity for the Reds to humiliate Manchester United the way they did Spurs in January.

Could Liverpool repeat Luis Diaz signing by bringing Moises Caicedo to Anfield?

Liverpool initially had no plans on bringing the Colombian to Anfield in January but when Spurs agreed a deal with Porto, the Reds acted rapidly, beating them to his signature much to the outrage of chairman Daniel Levy.

Diaz was brilliant against Crystal Palace and was a rare positive from an otherwise poor display from the Reds which saw Darwin Nunez sent off for a headbutt on Joachim Andersen.

It was a very unique situation and one that doesn't occur much but with Caicedo a target of Liverpool's and United making him a top target, it would be just perfect to see Julian Ward swoop in for his fourth signing in his debut summer as the club's sporting director.

It's not a likely outcome but if Klopp believes the 20-year-old could seriously improve his side, then why not?

It would be even sweeter given that Caicedo was instrumental in Brighton's 2-1 win at Old Trafford.
