Juventus still want Liverpool's £180k-a-week star - will re-visit signing in January

Juventus are reportedly still interested in signing Liverpool's £180k-a-week forward, Roberto Firmino, despite failing to do so in the summer.

The Reds refused any approaches from the Italian club in the summer which proved to be a wise move, given Diogo Jota's injury issues and Darwin Nunez's stumbling start in a Liverpool shirt.

Only 30, Firmino still finds himself an important player for club and country but his impact is slowly decreasing over time.

Now it's being reported that Juventus want to come back in for Firmino after the World Cup and target a January move for the forward. However, reports claim that there's still a very long way to go before any deal can take place.

Latest reports on Firmino to Juve

The Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb has suggested that Juve could revisit their interest in Firmino in January as their desire to sign the Brazilian 'has not faded'. However, the Serie A club currently have 'no room' for another attacker at the current time.

They already boast Dusan Vlahovic, Angel Di María, Federico Chiesa, Arkadiusz Milik and Moise Kean on the books and it has been claimed at least one will need to be shifted before new additions can be brought in.

It can be said, however, that isn't Juve's only obstacle in landing the Liverpool forward as the player himself as already expressed his desire to remain on Merseyside.

“I love this team, city and fans. I'm here at Liverpool and I want to stay,” he told TNT Brazil earlier in the summer.

His deal runs out next summer, and it's still unclear exactly what will happen to him in the future. This could be a farewell season for the forward but any deal he could sign to stay at the club is only likely to be a one or two-year deal at best.

New lease of life?

Before his heroics in the Bournemouth decimation, fans and pundits were ready to write off the Brazilian for his slow start to the season. He found himself as a starter following an injury to Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez's red card suspension.

In that first half against the Cherries, he silenced his doubters with three assists and a goal in just 31 minutes. Not bad for a finished player right?

Holding back on any major claims, Firmino will return to being the third-choice striker by the end of this month as Jota will return soon with Nunez already back leading the line.

A summer farewell seems the most likely, given Juve's current amount of strikers, but he still has a big part to play off the bench this year.
