Jurgen Klopp provides 'very promising' Virgil van Dijk injury recovery update
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has described the road to recovery for Virgil van Dijk as 'very promising'.
The 29-year-old has been out since October after suffering an ACL injury in the Merseyside derby. That injury alongside the injury to Joe Gomez has derailed Liverpool's bid to retain their Premier League title.
Klopp told reporters: “I don’t know what is possible and what is not possible; I don’t think I’m the right person to judge that 100 per cent.
“He looks really good. I spoke to him this morning, I had him on the phone – he is in a really good mood. So it’s all very promising. But I don’t know when he will be back.
“There are for sure a lot of stages still to go over or pass or whatever. That’s clear. I had this injury myself.
“But for the time we are in and for how long he is out now, how long the rehabilitation is going on, he looks really, really promising. But that’s all.”
This news comes as a huge confidence boost for Liverpool fans as they've seen their side struggle recently. Without a win in their last four, the club has fallen from first to fourth in the league.
Interestingly, van Dijk has also taken to his social media accounts to update fans on his rehabilitation. The Dutch defender is currently working on his fitness away from the team in Dubai.
Unfortunately, despite Klopp's optimism, he still refused to give a timeline of when Van Dijk may return to a matchday squad. However, the wait will be worth it when we finally see Virgil van Dijk back in a Liverpool shirt.
