How To Spot Fake Ticket Scams: LFC Share Info To Avoid Ticket Fraud

Liverpool have sent a warning to supporters to beware of the dangers of buying fake tickets ahead of the Carabao Cup final showdown with Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds face the Blues at 3 PM UK time on Sunday afternoon but along with the excitement of a trip to Wembley comes the stress that is involved with buying tickets for some fans.

Premier League clubs have been no stranger to fans being scammed out of hard-earned cash by fake ticket schemes and in a bid to help supporters avoid falling prey to criminals at this exciting time of the season, Liverpool have published a guide on how to avoid being scammed.

We have condensed their advice but if you are hoping to make late plans to attend the game, tickets are sold out and only official tickets will be accepted at Wembley.

Tips on how to avoid fake ticket scams ahead of the 2023/24 Carabao Cup final at Wembley

In a new post on the club's official website, Liverpool provided advice and a video to warn fans about the "dangers of buying fake tickets from third-party websites or unofficial sellers for Sunday's Carabao Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley."

Some clear guidelines have been set by the club:

  • Liverpool were the only "only official seller of LFC general admission tickets" for the 2024 Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on 25 February.
  • Therefore, tickets purchased anywhere but from LFC are fake and will not be accepted at the gate.

How to spot a genuine, official ticket versus a fake/scam ticket

  1. A genuine Liverpool FC ticket will only come via email from lfcinfo@update.liverpolfc.com
  2. It will download to your smartphone's Apple Wallet or Google Pay account in the same way the NFC pass to Anfield works

Liverpool created a bespoke "how-to video" to help supporters learn how to spot a genuine ticket from a fake one.

Fans that purchased General Admission tickets will only be able to gain entry to Wembley Stadium with the digital ticket emailed to you when you purchased your tickets.

Scammers may attempt to fool Liverpool, Chelsea and general football fans into buying fake tickets.

If anyone other than Liverpool or Chelsea are promoting or offering tickets for General Admission (GA), they are fake.

Additionally but just as significantly, all GA tickets are "non-transferrable." This means ticket resellers can't actually give you the ticket they claim to have!

List of things to be aware of:

  1. You should never accept a screenshot of a ticket. These will not grant you access into the stadium and will result in a waste of your hard-earned money!
  2. Do not buy tickets from anyone other than Liverpool FC!
  3. Beware of scammers using files sent over WhatsApp or other messaging platforms that could mimic the look of an authentic LFC ticket
