Analysis: Top 5 Liverpool players with the most minutes since 2018 revealed

Liverpool have had a stellar four years which has seen them win every trophy available to them, but who have been the players with the most minutes during that spell?

The list was revealed by the Athletic in their special report about Jurgen Klopp's intense style of play.

We look at the five players with the most minutes since 2018 and summarise their key stats during that time.

Before we start, we are only including players in the current squad as Sadio Mane would rank fifth on the list but we aren't including the now Bayern Munich player.

5. Virgil Van Dijk - 14,989 minutes

Considering he missed 45 games in the 2020/21 season, there's a case that he would be higher up on the list. However, since joining in January of 2018, he's been a titan at the back for the Reds.

He's played 190 games in that time scoring 17 and assisting 11 in all competitions - receiving only 14 yellow cards in that time and no red cards.

Individual accolades flowed during his best season in 2018/19 Champions League winning year being named the best player in England, player of the year for Liverpool and UEFA's best player in Europe.

At 31 now he's still a key player in this Liverpool side and with his contract runs out in 2025, fans can enjoy three more years of their favourite centre-back.

4. Trent Alexander-Arnold - 16,029 minutes

Having broken into the team in the 2017/18 season, Alexander-Arnold has been a revelation at right-back, transforming the way that full-backs are viewed whilst producing numbers that any attacking player would be overjoyed with.

Still only 23, he's likely to finish his career with all manners of assist records. He currently has 62 assists and 14 goals in 235 games which are mind-blowing numbers for a right back.

He's also been in the PFA Team of the Year three times, the Champions League Team of the Year and the FIFA Pro World XI too.

With being so young, who knows how his career will develop and who knows if he'll stay at right back for the duration of his career? There's no doubt he'll be one of the club's biggest icons when he retires.

3. Alisson 17,123 minutes

Of course, Alisson was going to be amongst the most minutes given his position, but he's developed into one of the leading goalkeepers in world football since joining from Roma in 2017.

He's featured 192 times for Liverpool, only conceding 156 goals and keeping 88 clean sheets in that time.

His most famous moment, aside from the many important saves, will be his goal against West Brom during the 2020/21 season. The headed goal was voted Liverpool's goal of the season and it helped secure Champions League football, against all odds.

In terms of individual honours, he's featured impressively in the FIFA Pro World XI twice and won the PL Golden Glove on two occasions. He continues to be a key part of Liverpool's spine in the present day.

2. Mohamed Salah 17,187 minutes

Liverpool's Egyptian king has been synonymous with their success since joining in 2017. In that time, he's been the club's top scorer and broke many records along the way.

He's scored 160 goals and assisted 66 times in 263 appearances in an outrageous return. His goal against Ajax earlier this week saw him become Liverpool's highest scorer in the Champions League at Anfield - making that 34 in 58 in the Champions League.

There's too many individual awards to name, but he's a three-time PL top goalscorer, a FIFA Puskas Award winner and he has the record for the most goals in a 38-game season in the PL.

Contracted until 2025, who knows how many goals he'll end up on and who knows what else he can achieve in an already stellar career.

1. Andy Robertson 17,213 minutes

Robertson has been an ever-present since joining Liverpool from Hull City for an incredibly low fee of £8M, given what he's gone on to achieve.

Alongside Trent, he's helped to change the narrative of how a full-back should play, with 55 assists to his name.

Given his remarkable attacking play, he's also managed to be as good defensively, making him one of the best left-backs in the world. He's been in the PL Team of the Year twice and the Champions League Team of the Season once as well.

Now 28, who knows how long he'll continue at the club, but his consistency, availability and desire have encapsulated exactly what this Liverpool team is about.
