Mohamed Salah has yet to sign a new contract with Liverpool and the negotiations have dragged on for months. The forward is annoyed at the way the talks have gone on for months. But Liverpool are trying to be careful as they do not want to push the financial envelope to keep the star man.
Salah was again the difference maker on Tuesday night when his goal was the difference as Liverpool beat Girona 1-0 away from home in the Champions League.
The forward has been in stellar form again this season and has time and again rescued points from Liverpool as was evident in the games against Southampton and Newcastle United respectively.
However, as things stand, his current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and he could leave Anfield on a free transfer with clubs in Europe keeping a close eye on his situation on Merseyside.
Liverpool have finally offered him a new deal but there is still no agreement between the two sides. Salah has prioritised staying at Liverpool over other options but wants the new deal to reflect the fact that he is one of the best players in the world and his impact on the Reds team.
The Reds have a policy of not offering more than a one-year extension to players over 30 but the Egyptian is the kind of player who deserves a bit of rule-bending.
Football expert claims Liverpool will bend the rule for Mohamed Salah
Mick Brown has admitted that the two sides will soon hold talks behind the scenes and Liverpool are prepared to break the rule for the player.
He revealed that the Reds will offer him a new two-year contract but they won’t go beyond that and it will be up to Salah to make the final call on signing the fresh terms.
“I’m confident they’ll reach an agreement at some stage”, Brown told Football Insider.
“I’m always amazed that clubs build bridges that they can’t cross. There’s always an exception. It’s an issue they’ve made for themselves.
