Mohamed Salah is yet to be handed the contract he wants and deserves from Liverpool and his agent has bizarrely sent a public message to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
It’s been widely reported that the Egyptian is looking to be paid £400,000 per week by the Reds in order to put pen to paper on a new contract.
He cheekily said in an interview with GQ that he’s not asking for ‘crazy stuff’ but when you think about it, he’s not.
According to WhoScored, for club and country this season, he’s scored 24 goals and has 9 assists and is widely considered to be the best player in the world ahead of the likes of Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski.
Over the course of four years, it would cost Liverpool roughly £80million to keep Salah at the club but to replace him, it would cost far more and there’s a very strong argument to be made that as the best player in the world, you cannot replace him.
The only players that can replace or match his attacking output will want to be paid more than him and will require a signing-on bonus, transfer fee and agents’ fees to arrive at Anfield.
The likes of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe could match Salah’s attacking legacy but they bring with them ego, agent drama and don’t have Salah’s humility which is a massive deal for the squad’s morale and unity.
This is why more than one eyebrow has been raised at Salah’s agent’s tweets to Fabrizio Romano this afternoon.
