Sporting director Michael Edwards can replicate his move for Mohamed Salah by signing PSV Eindhoven star Donyell Malen for just €31.5million (£27m).
Liverpool signed the Egyptian King for €39million (£34m) in 2017 and he has since gone on to become the best goalscorer in England, guiding his side to a Champions League triumph in 2019 and a Premier League title in 2020.
In that time, he has scored 125 times and assisted 47 goals in 203 appearances.
With Jurgen Klopp’s side in need of a new centre-forward, the Reds should look no further than the Netherlands’ Donyell Malen.
I have seen some supporters raise concerns over Malen’s suitability to playing the Premier League due to him playing in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven but his displays at the EUROs this summer should assuage these worries.
The Premier League is famous for being faster and more physically demanding than other major leagues in Europe but this actually plays into Malen’s hands (or feet?) as he is very combative for an attacker.
This was encapsulated by his assist for the Netherlands against North Macedonia. The PSV Eindhoven goal machine received the ball with his back to a defender before he bounced off the incoming challenge, spinning on the ball in the process.
He beat the initial press with ease, using his body to great effect before he burst between two midfielders by utilising his unbelievable acceleration.
He played a one-two with Memphis Depay and ran thirty yards before he assisted the former Manchester United forward.
Sky Sports Germany says Liverpool will open talks with PSV to sign the forward although domestic outlets are yet to cover the story so we will see if the Reds make the smart choice and to bring him to Anfield.
Transfermarkt claim he is worth €31.5million (£27m) and signing him at that price point could see him become the next Mohamed Salah and at just 22, he has the potential to become a great player.
