Price set for terrifying attacking target that club chief said will join Liverpool

DORTMUND, GERMANY - MAY 22: Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund celebrates after scoring their team's first goal during the Bundesliga match between Borussia Dortmund and Bayer 04 Leverkusen at Signal Iduna Park on May 22, 2021 in Dortmund, Germany.

Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Erling Haaland ever since he broke through the ranks at RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund have now named their price for the Norwegian superstar.

Jadon Sancho will join Manchester United this summer if Manchester United stop lowballing Dortmund but unless a football club wins the lottery, Erling Haaland will remain with the Bundesliga outfit for another season.

He scored 41 goals and assisted another 12 this season – incidentally the exact same number of direct goal contributions that Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe made this season.

A telling parallel between the two young forwards.

Liverpool’s Erling Haaland interest stretching back to 2019

In 2019, Calciomercato reported that Liverpool were interested in signing the Norwegian after he faced the reigning European champions in the Champions League. He then moved to Borussia Dortmund after BVB triggered his miserly €20m (£17m) release clause.

With Jurgen Klopp continually linked with signing Haaland ever since, RB Salzburg director Christopher Freund told Welt that he believes the 20-year-old  “will land there”. He said this when asked if he thinks his former striker will join Liverpool.

La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Alfredo Pedulla reports that Haaland has reached an agreement with Real Madrid but that Dortmund will demand €175million for his signature this summer before his €75million release clause will become active in 2022.

Of course, neither Real Madrid nor Liverpool nor any other club will be able to pay BVB the price they’re demanding this summer and so he will only leave the Westfalenstadion next year.

Haaland to Madrid and Mbappe to Liverpool?

Mbappe is the only player in the world that has a higher potential and it’s long since felt as though it’s between Liverpool and Real Madrid to see who lands him but if Los Blancos sign Haaland for €75million next summer, it seems unlikely they would be able to sign Mbappe too.

The Frenchman might be available next summer for free if PSG fail to extend his terms at the Parc des Princes but paying for Haaland, paying his wages as well as covering Mbappe’s salary would likely spread them too thin.

Haaland moving to La Liga would likely give the Anfield outfit a free run at the 22-year-old superstar.
