Jurgen Klopp needs to hand £4.40 million man his debut against Rangers

Once again, Reds fans have had hopes of a resurgence dashed following a lengthy break from league football.

After a week of debate over the defensive abilities of Alexander-Arnold, the 23-year-old did himself no favours in this game.

Floating into a midfield position, as he has clearly been instructed to, but also leaving open space in behind has cost the reds too many times.

It becomes a predictable and tiring talking point. Get the ball in behind Liverpool’s right back and you’ve got a chance.

Pulling out of challenges, half-hearted tracking back and an all-round disaster of a performance proved that confidence is low.

Having been in the headlines following England manager Gareth Southgate questioning Alexander-Arnold’s defensive ability, he did nothing to prove that claim to be false.

Two Roberto Firmino goals, one rather fortunate after a miskick from Mo Salah, drew Liverpool level.

Against the run of play, the home side took the lead through a Brighton own goal.

The Seagulls earned a well-deserved point as more good work down the Liverpool right flank resulted in a cross somehow finding that man Trossard for him to make it a hat-trick.

Three goals engineered from the same wing begs the question, should a change in personnel be made?

Summer signing Calvin Ramsay, signed for £4.40M from Aberdeen, has now returned to full training.

The 19-year-old right-back could be the answer to one of Jurgen Klopp’s biggest problems.

With Alexander-Arnold needing to be taken out of the firing line and sent a message that he is not untouchable, a clash with Rangers could be an ideal time.

Coming from the Scottish Premiership, Ramsay has experience of playing against the Glasgow side.

Quite frankly, the youngster cannot do any worse than his teammate that has held the position all season thus far.
