Marc Guéhi isn't in Liverpool's plan for the season (Credits: Imago Images)
Despite seeing interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus, Liverpool seem to be reluctant to go hard for Marc Guéhi in January.
Guéhi almost joined the Reds this summer on deadline day, but the final hours of the window proved to be unconvincing as Crystal Palace refused to sanction a move for their skipper.
Things seemed complete as the Merseysiders finished Marc Guéhi’s medicals in London. Although what followed was hard to believe, as Palace denied the final offer sheet for the last green signal.
The reasons for the failure trace back to defender Igor Julio. Oliver Glasner had already signed Jaydee Canvot, but that didn’t seem enough to fill the big English shoes.
In the closing hours of the window, Brighton and Hove Albion defender Julio chose the London Stadium over Selhurst Park. Glasner clearly wasn’t satisfied with the level of ambition shown by his employers in the transfer market.
The Austrian manager threatened to walk away with one year left on his contract. It was because he didn’t want their captain to leave without a proper substitute in sight.
With tensions rising, chairman Steve Parish agreed not to let the defender leave, as losing the manager would mean a period of uncertainty in London.

Liverpool won’t be bidding for Marc Guéhi in January

As reported earlier, the Reds seem to be reluctant to the prospect of buying Marc Guéhi with only a year left on his contract. Reports from talkSPORT suggest that Arne Slot is satisfied with the current defensive line.
Having only three central defenders in the back is going to be a risky endeavour for Arne Slot. Despite Virgil van Dijk’s form, it is questionable if a 34-year-old defender can play football day in and day out.
Joe Gomez has had a long history of injuries despite being a consistent performer when fit. Ibrahima Konaté, on the other hand, recently suffered a knock against Liverpool’s narrow win against Arsenal.
Although he was seen doing well with France, his recent history remains a cautious tale. talkSPORT also claims that despite missing out on Marc Guéhi this summer, the Reds management is satisfied with the results they have achieved.
Their main goal was securing a young centre back, which they did in Geovanni Leoni. The 18-year-old Italian is Premier League-ready in Slot’s eyes and will solve Liverpool’s depth problems.
