Liverpool almost signed Marc Guéhi in the summer on deadline day, but Crystal Palace didn’t shy away from a U-turn in the final hours of the window.
Guéhi had completed his medicals in London for the Reds as Arne Slot’s side was ready with the offer sheet for submission. Unfortunately for the eager parties, Palace pulled the plug in the last minute, stranding the English defender at Selhurst Park.
Slot later also talked about the transfer and how it might affect the player. The Dutchman also claimed that it’s a normal part of football, and that’s just how sometimes things go.
“For us, it was, of course, a disappointment, for the player, I assume, as well, because he was expecting to come to us. I try to put myself in the player’s shoes, but that can happen with a player from us as well, maybe a player wanted to leave but in the end couldn’t because we couldn’t get a player we wanted, that happens in football many times and the good thing in football is, especially after the international break, everybody comes back, accepts the situation and knows he has to perform well.”

According to The Mirror, the Crystal Palace captain has changed his mind about the move to Liverpool after being an inch close to landing at Anfield.
The media outlet claims Marc is now showing interest in signing for Spanish giants Real Madrid. Los Blancos showed interest in the defender, but confidence in Ibrahima Konaté meant that they would change their plans.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, Xabi Alonso seems to be sniffing two world-class defenders next summer. Sources have told Mirror Sport that the Englishman’s top choice is Real Madrid despite having flirted with the Reds in the summer.
This only means bad news for Arne Slot. The Dutchman is already sitting with just three senior defenders in the squad and was expecting Marc Guéhi and Ronald Araújo to ease the tension.
Konaté’s extension talks only led nowhere as Real Madrid are confident of signing the defender in the upcoming summer. There are also rumours of Joe Gomez attracting interest from Italy, with AC Milan expecting to make a move in January.
This way, the Merseysiders will be left with even fewer senior defenders than they currently have, even if a move for Araújo is agreed upon.
