Man United blow Liverpool out of chase for star defender

Arne Slot offers key updates ahead of Chelsea clash

Liverpool have decisions to make on their left-back options for next season with the club believed to be interested in adding a player for that position in the summer transfer window.

Andy Robertson has been in and out of the team this season and while he is still considered as the first-choice left-back, he is no longer a certain starter at Anfield.

Liverpool want to keep his experience at the club and are planning to offer him a new contract at the end of the season but there could be movement in the left-back slot next summer.

Kostas Tsimikas’ future at the club is under the scanner with suggestions that could be used as a makeweight in a deal to bring in a new left-back.

Liverpool are looking at players such as Milos Kerkez and Antonee Robinson but the club are also alive to the opportunity of signing Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies.

He has yet to sign a new deal at Bayern Munich and could be available on a free transfer next summer.

However, it has been claimed that Manchester United have stolen a march on Liverpool and others in the pursuit of Davies.

Manchester United table massive contract offer

Ruben Amorim wants a new left-back in his squad next summer who can play as the attacking wing-back and Davies perfectly fits the bill.

With his contract expiring at Bayern Munich, Manchester United have sensed an opportunity to get a top player on a free transfer and are aggressively trying to convince him.

According to German daily Bild, Manchester United have offered massive wages to Davies to agree to move to Old Trafford on a free transfer next summer.

Real Madrid are also interested in Davies and Bayern Munich are still working on agreeing on a new contract with the left-back.

However, Manchester United’s offer to Davies is higher than what the two European giants are prepared to shell out for the defender.

It is almost certain that Liverpool are unlikely to match Manchester United’s offer as well given how tightly they want to control their wage bill.
