Major Trent Alexander-Arnold contract update

Real Madrid have intensified their interest in Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold following Dani Carvajal's ACL injury

Liverpool have a long history of producing players from their academy who take the world by storm.

At the turn of the century, it was Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher bursting onto the scene. Though Owen single-handedly won an FA Cup Final for Liverpool in 2001 and went on to win the Ballon D’or in 2004, his Liverpool legacy is miniscule to that of the other two.

Gerrard and Carragher stayed as Owen went off to play for Real Madrid, and ironically it was Gerrard and Carragher lifting the Champions  League trophy at the end of that season and not Owen and Madrid.

Owen’s career would go off the rails after that. He tried to engineer a move back to Liverpool but in the end signed for Newcastle United. When they were relegated, he says he could not possibly sign for Hull City or Everton, so signed for arguably Liverpool’s most hated rivals Manchester United.

That is just a small insight into how a beloved youth player can become everything the fan base hates, so surely Trent Alexander-Arnold won’t follow the same path? He’s a Gerrard not an Owen – right?

Like Owen, the Trent Alexander-Arnold contract situation has left him with Real Madrid knocking and every Liverpool fan is hoping he takes the Gerrard route and turns down the Spanish giants and continues building his legacy at Anfield. But will he?

The Scouser in our team is one of three huge players whose deals expire at the same time, at the end of this season in June 2025. This is because the club have seen so much change in the football department that the deals for Trent, Mo Salah and Virgil Van Dijk were neglected.

Then the new regime had to prioritise replacing Jurgen Klopp before dealing with these contract. But now the three contracts are just months away from expiry, leaving Liverpool in a situation where they could lose their three best players for free..

New update

As the Trent Alexander-Arnold contract saga rumbles on, there has been a new update. According to Indykaila News, Trent has made a major breakthrough in his talks with Liverpool.

Indykaila claimed to have spoken with the PLG Group Football Agency who are negotiating the deal for Trent and said:

“Serious breakthrough today. He wants to stay. The signing on fee is the sticking point. We are getting closer to an agreement.”

This means that Trent could be staying in the red of Merseyside after all. But will a young player linked with a move? Read more here.
