Major Liverpool injury concern as summer arrival forced off in Frankfurt

Liverpool injury

Liverpool might’ve plugged the holes in Frankfurt as the Reds managed to get their first win after four losses in a row. This was their first away win after losing outside Merseyside three consecutive times.

Hugo Ektike was a big help as the French striker opened the scoresheet against his former club. The Merseysiders were trailing 1-0 after the 26th minute mark as Rasmus Kristensen scored the first goal of the game.

A series of strikes followed as the away side didn’t leave any hopes for a comeback. Arne Slot’s men had scored five, with Dominik Szoboszlai closing the scoresheet in the 70th minute.

All ended well for Liverpool, but there were some problems before even the first goal was netted at Deutsche Bank Park. Jeremie Frimpong was called off in the 19th minute as Conor Bradley took his place for the Reds.

Frimpong joins Alisson Becker, Giovanni Leoni and Ryan Gravenberch on the sidelines as the wing-back seems to have suffered a hamstring issue.

“I expect Frimpong to be out for a few weeks with this new injury”, Slot told the press. Nevertheless, this poses a big problem for the Merseyside outfit.

Frimpong has had big problems with injuries as he was out till mid-September following his debut against Bournemouth. Slot, on the other hand, displayed a sense of uncertainty while facing the press.

“Jeremie is a hamstring issue. He came back from a hamstring injury a few weeks ago and played for the national team one game, came back to us and now, unfortunately, after 10, 15 minutes, I don’t know, he had to go off.”

The Reds are already missing their star goalkeeper, Alisson. Furthermore, Leoni’s anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury has only exacerbated their depth issues in the back.

Updates on Ryan Gravenberch

Gravenberch also limped off the pitch against Manchester United in the second half, with the Reds going on to lose the game 2-1 at home.

Following the clash, Slot confirmed his unavailability against Frankfurt and hoped that he could use him on the weekend. However, the manager also cautioned against rushing things, which might make them worse.

“He has such a particular quality in our squad, which we’ve seen when we played Bournemouth, for example, when we played the Community Shield.”

“But it’s an ankle injury, we have to wait and see, give him a bit of time and see where he is when we come back from Frankfurt.”
