Jeremie Frimpong wasn’t the only summer signing that didn’t finish the game in Frankfurt. Despite winning their first game after four consecutive losses, Arne Slot only has problems building on his back.
On the other hand, a different summer signing continued his impeccable performances for the Reds. Hugo Ekitike scored the equaliser for Liverpool when the club was one goal down in Germany.
The former Eintracht Frankfurt star scored against his former club and paved the way for the Merseysiders to make a comeback.
Frimpong, however, was called off in the 19th minute, even before Rasmus Kristensen opened the scoresheet in the 26th minute. Arne Slot confirmed that it was a groin injury, as the wing-back has had problems with the same in the past.
Alexander Isak was another Red on the receiving end. The British record signing has scored zero goals for the Merseysiders so far.

Many comments have been made regarding Isak’s game time after Liverpool signed the striker for £125m in the summer. With the player not having participated in any pre-season, Slot was evidently cautious of taking it easy with the striker.
However, the Swede was taken off at half-time as he joined Jeremie Frimpong on the sidelines. Gaffer Slot confirmed that the injury was groin-related.
“He had to come off because he felt his groin. Many people told me they wanted me to play him more, and we had to find the balance, and unfortunately, that balance didn’t work out for us today perfectly.”
However, the manager did appreciate Isak’s attitude throughout the match, claiming the striker did what he wanted him to. Ekitike was also present in the mix as both of them started the game up front.
“Both of them did what I was hoping for, making runs in behind, making sure they were a big threat, and both of them did well. I’m hoping that this doesn’t have to be that bad because if, if, if he would be out now for a few weeks, that would put him back.”

Slot finding it hard to find the balance
Slot also talked about finding the balance as he’ll have to prepare the Swede for the most physical league in the world, with the latter not participating in any pre-season.
“You try to prepare players for once-a-week football. But if you are Liverpool, then you play every three days or normally three times in eight days, because we’ve been unfortunate this season that we have to play three times in seven days.”
“Then you try to prepare for that programme, which is not always so easy if you don’t have a pre-season. That’s what we tried to do, and we thought he was well prepared for that. But the margins in the top are small.”
