Jeremie Frimpong and Ryan Gravenberch were among some Liverpool stars who missed Wednesday night’s game against Crystal Palace due to injury. Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo missed the squad for different reasons.
Arne Slot complained about the lack of depth in the team, which is why he decided to rest some of his key players. The Reds suffered a huge 3-0 defeat to Palace at Anfield. Oliver Glasner’s side extended Liverpool’s recent winless run.
The Reds have just one win in their last seven games, losing six of those matches. Nobody can exactly pinpoint why Liverpool have been so bad recently, with fingers being pointed at Arne Slot.
There have been rumours that the Dutchman could be under pressure if this run continues, but sources claim that Liverpool are very happy with him.
Liverpool star injury revealed
Amidst this poor run of form, the Reds have also been struggling with injuries. Some players have not been able to have a consistent run in the team this season because of this. Alexander Isak is one; the striker has just eight appearances this season.
The Reds received some big news after the Crystal Palace game as Arne Slot revealed the status of a first team star. Ryan Gravenberch is set to be available for this weekend’s clash with Aston Villa after being out since the Manchester United game.
However, shortly after that news, Liverpool have received a huge blow. It has been confirmed that Jeremie Frimpong’s injury will keep him out for up to six weeks. The fullback picked up a hamstring problem in the recent Champions League game.
Jeremie Frimpong has struggled this season
Arriving for around £29.5million was a big price tag for the Dutchman. He was also expected to replace the output of Trent Alexander Arnold, who was vital in the Premier League win last year.
| Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | 1 | 0 |
But injuries have sidelined Frimpong for most of this season – he has featured in just nine games this season, playing a total of 419 minutes. The defender has just one Premier League start, and has not had a consistent run of games to show what he can deliver.
This is something that has also affected the other new summer signings, with only Hugo Ekitike being the standout player so far.
