The Luis Diaz Bayern Munich transfer is now official after the Colombian winger was left out of Liverpool’s squad against Newcastle. A Key Contributor to Liverpool’s Title-Winning Campaign

Diaz played a pivotal role under Arne Slot last season, scoring 13 league goals and showcasing the relentless energy that made him a fan favourite. Over 148 appearances, he contributed 48 goals and 23 assists, consistently delivering in high-pressure moments.

During his time at Anfield, Diaz helped Liverpool win two Carabao Cups, an FA Cup, the Premier League, and the Community Shield. His work rate, versatility, and flair made him a vital component in Liverpool’s attacking setup.

Transfer Details and Bayern’s Summer Pursuit

According to The Athletic, Bayern Munich have signed Diaz in a £65.6 million deal, with a proposed 4+1 year contract. Diaz was granted permission to travel to Germany for his medical. Earlier in the window, Liverpool rejected an initial £58.6 million bid, only entertaining offers they believed met his full market value.

Bayern had been searching for an attacking reinforcement after missing out on key targets. Their first-choice, Florian Wirtz, moved to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen, while Nico Williams chose to stay at Athletic Club. They also made inquiries for Xavi Simons, but eventually turned to Diaz for his experience, versatility, and tactical flexibility.

Liverpool’s Outgoings Continue This Summer

Diaz joins a growing list of players departing Anfield this summer. Caoimhín Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah, and Nat Phillips have also moved on as the club reshapes the squad under Slot’s vision.

A Look Back: Diaz’s Arrival from Porto

Luis Diaz joined Liverpool in January 2022 from FC Porto, with Tottenham Hotspur also pushing for his signature. Liverpool eventually won the race, completing the transfer after weeks of negotiations. The initial fee was £37.5 million, with add-ons that could have raised the total to £50 million. However, the final cost came to around £43 million.
