Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark has posted an emotional goodbye message on his social media pages as he left the club to join Red Bull Salzburg. The 19-year old will join the Austrian side on a long term deal.
Clark had been linked with a move away from anfield all summer, and will now reunite with former Liverpool assistant Pep Ljinders, who is now the head coach of Red Bull Salzburg.
The midfielder brings his stay at the club to an end after joining the team three years ago from Newcastle United. Clark made a handful of first team appearances, and scored and provided an assist on his Europa league debut in front of an Anfield crowd.
What Bobby Clark posted on his socials
Clark had an emotional message, bidding farewell to the fans of the club:
‘After an incredible three years at Liverpool, I’ve decided it’s time for a new challenge.
‘I’ve learned so much during my time at the club and am very thankful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had. Thank you to all the fans who supported me.’
The use of the word “challenge” is the interesting part, as it only confirms he left the club because he was ready to play first team football. After not being able to feature in pre season and impress new head coach Arne Slot, the best option was finding a new club.
What Liverpool have said
Liverpool wrote this official statement on their website after Clark’s departure:
“Bobby Clark has joined Red Bull Salzburg on a permanent transfer, subject to international clearance.
The 19-year-old leaves Anfield after three years at the club having finalised a switch to the Austrian Bundesliga side.
Clark initially arrived from Newcastle United in August 2021 and made his senior debut for the Reds a year later, coming on as a substitute in a 9-0 home win over AFC Bournemouth.
In total, he appeared on 14 occasions for Liverpool, including when he came off the bench in the Carabao Cup final triumph over Chelsea at Wembley in February. The midfielder also netted in a Europa League tie against Sparta Prague at Anfield last term.
He now departs Merseyside for Salzburg, where he will once again link up with former Reds assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders.”
The Reds bring in more funds
After selling Fabio Carvalho to Brentford for £27.5million, the Reds will add a healthy fee from the sale of Bobby Clark. According to reports, Salzburg are paying £10million with add ons and a sell on clause of 17.5%.
Liverpool are also in the process of selling defender Sepp Van den Berg, who is being pursued by two teams for a fee around £30million.
Despite the great business going out of the club, there is still no sign of transfers coming in.
