Liverpool is still planning for the upcoming transfer windows, as the summer couldn’t quench Arne Slot’s thirst for a complete team.
After selling Jarrell Quansah, Slot hoped to find a replacement. However, he had nothing in the end as Marc Guehi’s move from Crystal Palace saw an incomplete end on deadline day.
Despite spending £440m+ in the summer, the money concentrated mostly up front as the only centre-back signing was 18-year-old Italian Giovanni Leoni from Parma.
Leoni, however, tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on his debut against Southampton. Following a tiring week, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate had played 270+ minutes in just under seven days.
Slot then decided to give the Italian teenager his debut, but he went down at the 81st-minute mark. Now, he sees a long recovery road ahead as he’ll be out for around a year.
Leoni recently underwent his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery and will be hoping to make a comeback. The Reds signed the Italian so that he could replace Van Dijk in the future, whose contract expires in 2027.
Liverpool transfer updates: Joe Gomez

Despite just having three defenders in the squad, Slot seems willing to sell Joe Gomez to bring in a new defender for replacement.
According to the Daily Briefing, Liverpool aren’t keen on selling Gomez, but the right offer will make them think about the Englishman.
If enough money reaches their account, they can bid for defenders in January itself, which the Merseysiders have been avoiding. AC Milan got very close to the 28-year-old in the summer, but the scarcity at Anfield meant they had to go back empty-handed.
The Italian outfit is ready to launch another mission to sign the defender, and Gomez might be keen on a move to Serie A as his long-term role remains uncertain at Anfield.

Further interests and Marc Guehi angle
The report also claims that the likes of Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace are also interested in signing the centre-back.
Palace’s case is interesting as Glasner is looking for a replacement for Marc Guehi as the Eagles skipper is set for an exit with a contract expiring at the end of the season.
Gomez’s name had come up in Guehi’s deal discussion, says Football Insider. If the Englishman can be the link between the two clubs, then both will end up having what they wanted, as Palace captain Guehi isn’t keen on staying long at Selhurst Park, and Gomez is looking for more game time.
