Liverpool watching £88million rated teenager who could be the next Phil Foden

Liverpool supporters have been used to seeing their side fork out astronomical fees over recent months for star players, and their next marquee signing may have already been identified.

Back in August, no one would have predicted Liverpool to sit 12th in the Premier League after the opening 12 games, especially after the summer transfer window they had.

On paper, the Reds’ transfer business was almost perfect, with Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak’s additions meaning Liverpool had arguably the best attack in Europe on paper.

However, both men are still trying to find their feet in Merseyside, but this has seemingly not discouraged Liverpool from being willing to spend big in the transfer market.

In step, Assan Ouedraogo.

Liverpool are among the clubs keeping tabs on Assan Ouedraogo

Whilst it is a smart move for Liverpool to invest in young talent for the future, their current season needs saving before it gets any worse.

This is seemingly a sentiment that the Liverpool hierarchy shares, with a reported bid made for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Antoine Semenyo is also a top target for the Reds in the January transfer window, with both Semenyo and Guehi being proven quality Premier League players in their prime right now.

Ouedraogo, 19, does not fit this mould as of yet, but the teenage sensation is reportedly a player that Liverpool are keeping an eye on.

According to reports from German outlet SportBILD, scouts from both Liverpool and Arsenal have been to see Ouedraogo in action for RB Leipzig recently.

Manchester United and Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the young midfielder, who has scored three goals and recorded three assists in 11 Bundesliga appearances so far this season.

Leipzig are said to be eyeing a future sale of around £88million for Ouedraogo, who they signed from Schalke for around £8.8million in the summer of 2024.

Whilst a move may not materialise in January, it is certainly one for Liverpool supporters to keep an eye on in the future.

Data suggests Assan Ouedraogo could be the next Phil Foden

According to FBref, one of the players most similar to Ouedraogo is Manchester City’s Foden.

Despite being just 25, Foden has been lighting up the Premier League for multiple years now, and if Liverpool can secure a player who possesses similar quality to him, then it would be a fantastic piece of business.

This season, Foden averages 4.62 shot-creating actions per match, with Ouedraogo being just behind the England international with 4.09.

For goal-creating actions per 90 minutes, Ouedraogo, in fact, averages even more than Foden.

So far this season in the Bundesliga, the teenager averages 1.15 goal-creating actions per match, whilst Foden averages 0.45 in the Premier League.
