Liverpool look set to have another busy transfer window in January in a last-ditch attempt to get their season back on track.
Antoine Semenyo has been linked with a move to Anfield, with Liverpool reportedly facing stiff competition from other Premier League clubs to secure the Bournemouth winger.
Liverpool have also reportedly launched another bid for Marc Guehi, as the Reds look to finally bring the England international to Merseyside after months of rumours.
However, despite Liverpool’s seeming willingness to invest in centre-backs in January, another part of their defence looks as though it will be neglected in the upcoming transfer window, despite the Reds sustaining two notable injuries in that area.
Liverpool ‘unlikely’ to sign new right-back in January
With Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley both currently out injured, it would be expected that Richard Hughes and Co. would be keeping their eye out for a new right back in the upcoming transfer window.
However, this does not appear to be the case, with Football Insider reporting on 26 November that Liverpool are “unlikely” to bring a new right-sided defender to the club.
The report claims that strengthening in this position is “not a priority” despite Dominik Szoboszlai having to fill in their on multiple occasions already this season, with the Hungarian midfielder performing amicably in this new role when called upon.
With Real Madrid among the clubs chasing the signature of Guehi, it is understandable that the Reds’ full focus appears to be on strengthening the centre of their defence as opposed to the right-hand side of it.
When are Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley scheduled to return?
Bradley recently sustained a muscular injury whilst on international duty for Northern Ireland.
Arne Slot claimed the defender faces around three weeks on the sidelines, with Bradley potentially being back in contention for Liverpool’s game against Tottenham on December 20.
Frimpong, on the other hand, has been out injured since the Reds’ 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt back in October.
Like Bradley, Frimpong is also scheduled to return in December, with supporters hoping both players will be back to full fitness for the second half of the season.
However, if both players’ injury troubles continue, then Liverpool’s decision to not sign a new right-back could prove to be a costly mistake.
