Liverpool want to sign 22-year-old to replace Sadio Mane: Manchester United have already offered €105million

Despite Liverpool’s interest in Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, Paul Joyce says the Reds will not enter a bidding war for him.

As speculation continues to suggest Sadio Mane will move on this summer and look for a new challenge, Liverpool are bracing themselves for another Bayern Munich bid.

Joyce reports that Liverpool have already dismissed a bid from Bayern Munich worth £21million plus £4million in add-ons.

Right before the update on Mane, Joyce reported that the rumours of Liverpool interest in Darwin Nunez are true but stated that they will not entertain a bidding war.

Writing for the Sunday Times, he said: “If they decide to sell, Liverpool would demand a fee sufficient to recruit a suitable replacement.

“There is interest in Benfica’s Darwin Núñez, the Uruguay striker who scored home and away against Jürgen Klopp’s side in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but Liverpool will not pursue the 22-year-old at any cost.”

If it comes to it, Manchester United would win any bidding war against Liverpool even if Anfield is more attractive right now due to Jurgen Klopp’s success with the Reds.

Via the People’s Person, a Man Utd blog, Correio de Manha claims that the Red Devils made a bid last week worth €75 million and €20 million in bonuses.

Plus they apparently offered Andreas Pereira to sweeten the deal.

Darwin Nunez

Nunez is a good player and could become top class under Jurgen Klopp.

But he has a lot of work to do when it comes to decision making and link up play.

His finishing cannot be criticised as it is, by quite a margin, his best attribute.

Should he sign for Liverpool or Manchester United, I have very little doubt that he could challenge for the Golden Boot.

But how good he would be at knitting play together at the top end of the pitch when under pressure, I’m unsure.
