Sky Sports man says LFC signing rapid £54.8M forward “would be a smart move” to keep up with “frightening” Man City

Leroy Sane

Liverpool have been urged to sign Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sane to boost the club’s attacking depth after losing three attackers this summer.

Sadio Mane leaving Anfield will have an effect on Jurgen Klopp’s side this season regardless of whether or not Darwin Nunez hits the ground running when he returns from suspension.

The effect of losing Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino – two of the best super subs Klopp has ever had – isn’t spoken of enough and there’s an argument to be made that Klopp needs a midfielder and a new forward.

With Diogo Jota injured and Nunez suspended until next month, it’s going to be very interesting to see how Liverpool cope.

The only available forwards are Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino, who is also returning from an injury of his own although it’s reportedly not a serious issue.

Liverpool are suffering through an unexpected injury crisis before the bulk of this season’s football is fully underway and it’s a worrying omen especially given the World Cup in Qatar later this year is only going to further exacerbate the strain on players.

Liverpool urged to sign Leroy Sane to rotate with Luis Diaz

Diaz was the hero for the Kop on Monday evening, scoring a worldie from 25 yards after beating four players with his tight dribbling.

But with Mane now in Bavaria, the Colombian doesn’t have a natural left winger to share game time with and will be expected to play in every major game this season.

Sky Sports contributor and former Everton striker, Kevin Campbell, told Football Insider that he believes Liverpool should sign Leroy Sane, who joined Bayern Munich in 2020 for £54.8M.

He said: “I think there is room for Leroy Sane at Liverpool. We all know that is all about the squad these days.

“There is going to be injuries, loss of form and back-to-back league and Champions League games.

“You need to be able to flip your squad so everybody is fresh.

“If it was Diaz one game and Sane the next… I’m sure Liverpool fans would be happy with that.

“Many teams would love that strength in depth, let’s be honest. I think it would be a smart move to go for Sane.

“When you look at the way City are, their bench is phenomenal. It is incredible the strength in depth they have.

“You need to match that to compete with them. It is frightening. With five subs it can make a huge difference.”

Liverpool have been linked with Villarreal forward Yeremy Pino as well but it seems unlikely that a new forward (or anyone for that matter) will be signed to join the Reds before the close of the transfer window.
