“In recent weeks:” Jurgen Klopp has “expressed interest in” signing £14M rated midfielder that stands at 6ft3

Sheffield United's Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge (L) is pressured by Liverpool's Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum (R) during the English Premier League football match between Liverpool and Sheffield United at Anfield in Liverpool, north west England on October 24, 2020.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for a former Premier League midfielder who has impressed in the PL in the past.

The Reds have struggled for consistency with their midfield given they currently have three central midfielders out injured.

With worries over the quality of their depth, fans are demanding a new midfielder to come in before the end of the transfer window.

It could force the club to enter the market – with incomings and departures rumoured in the latest reports.

They could turn to a young, dominating midfielder who has impressed in the PL before and could be a bargain buy.

Who could Liverpool sign?

One midfielder that has caught the attention of Jurgen Klopp is Sheffield United’s Sander Berge – who completed two seasons in the PL and has previous Champions League experience at Genk.

Gary Weaver at Sky Sports has claimed that Jurgen Klopp has expressed interest in Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge in recent weeks.

The versatile midfielder can play defensive midfield, central midfield or even slightly more advanced if needed and stands tall at 1.95m as a dominating presence in midfield.

Only valued at £14.4M, he could be a bargain option to the likes of Matheus Nunes, Marcelo Brozovic and Ismael Bennacer that have been linked with the Reds.

With 30 caps for Norway at 24 years old, Berge boasts experience across different countries, competitions and at international level.

He would be a low-cost signing for the club, given his weekly wage is in the region of £33k-a-week. With two years left on his deal and with the player currently in the Championship, a deal shouldn’t be too costly.

One issue could be his injury record, however; in 2017 he missed 204 days of action, in 2020 he missed 93 days and last season he missed 66 days. His physical reliability can certainly be questioned.

A midfielder who operates on the right side of midfield (Henderson’s position) his stats don’t display anything too special and other targets on the market seem of a higher level.
