Liverpool to sign ‘two or three’ midfielders as part of 2023 “overhaul” with two outstanding targets already identified

Manchester City Liverpool

Liverpool could be in line for a midfield overhaul next summer after reports revealed that it is likely they will sign two or three players next year.

The Reds have flirted with making moves this summer but it seems that the time is not right now – but it will be next summer.

Players have entered the final year of their deals, some have dropped down the pecking order and some have just simply reached a certain age; there are quite a few situations to resolve for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool.

Then there’s the identification of key targets – the likes of Jude Bellingham and Matheus Nunes may be brought in next summer – according to the latest reports.

Latest reports on Liverpool’s transfer news

Latest reports suggest movement at Liverpool is likely, but only for next summer.

Ian Doyle at the Liverpool ECHO claims: “Basic mathematics indicates it is likely to be two, possibly three [midfielders]” that Liverpool sign next summer.

With options this summer seemingly dismissed, next year will see a lot of movement both in and out of the club as an exciting midfield overhaul should take place.

With midfielders suggested to come in, it’s likely Liverpool will have their main target in mind as Simon Jones (Daily Mail Sport) claimed Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham is expected to join Liverpool next summer.

Talks may have even begun as we reported weeks ago that ‘progress’ had been made for a deal.

At the Liverpool Echo, Ian Doyle has stated: “We know the Reds are going to sign some midfielders next summer as part of an overhaul.

That overhaul will surely see Bellingham as the main target and the signing of Matheus Nunes, who just joined Wolves, could also be an option according to some reports, even despite just joining the PL.

Midfield overhaul?

The Reds have issues to contend with in their midfield including fringe players such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who could easily move on next summer.

He was already linked with West Ham earlier in the window before getting injured.

Curtis Jones hasn’t impressed the same way other younger players have and the signing of Fabio Carvalho suggests he too will struggle for game time – it may be time for a loan move or even a permanent deal however if two midfielders leave then he would most likely stay.

James Milner is still a great player to have around the squad, but his quality is diminishing year on year and at 36, there may be a discussion to have next summer.

Especially given Calvin Ramsey has been signed to cover the RB role which Milner does provide cover for.

A midfield overhaul should re-invigorate the Reds with Fabinho still at his anchor, its likely he could be joined by two new midfielders next to him next summer.
