Liverpool to sign £42m Lyon speedster in surprise deal

Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of getting a deal done to sign a speedster from Lyon in a surprise move that could inject fresh pace and flair into Arne Slot’s forward line. The Reds have been linked with several attacking reinforcements, but this latest development could be one of the most unexpected twists of the window.

The Merseyside giants are set to step up their efforts to strengthen other areas of their squad once they finalise the arrival of Florian Wirtz this week for a club-record fee.

Liverpool are in the market for wide forwards, and it could become a pressing need soon if Luis Diaz successfully finds a way to leave the Reds to join Barcelona this summer.

The club have been assessing several young wide attackers and wingers, and Liverpool are now pressing forward with an attempt to sign a Lyon speedster in the ongoing transfer window.

Malick Fofana earned widespread praise for his performances last season at Lyon, and particularly attracted the attention of English observers against Manchester United in the Europa League.

Liverpool have been monitoring the winger for months, and are now prepared to beat other clubs to his signature in the ongoing transfer window.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe via Sporting Witness, the Merseyside giants have initiated conversations with Fofana’s new agent over a potential transfer.

They are the only Premier League club to get in contact with his new representation, and are now working on a deal to take the young speedster to Anfield.

Lyon want somewhere around £42m before agreeing to sell Fofana, but Liverpool are likely to try and push down that figure through negotiations.

A deal is very much dependent on Diaz leaving Liverpool this summer.
