Liverpool to pay £75M for Van Dijk replacement

Liverpool are currently in the market for signings in the summer window.

The reds have realized as the season has progressed that the team needs some quality additions. Liverpool refused to sign any new players in the January window. During the summer, the team made two permanent first team additions. Arne Slot revealed last month that he was ”happy” with the current squad.

Slot has made the most of the players at his disposal this campaign. His possession-based style has brought the best out of Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo this season. The duo had underwhelming campaigns last year.

Whatever changes that will be made to the squad will factor the future of some players.

Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah are yet to sign new long term deals at the club. As it stands, Liverpool are expecting them to depart in the summer. Last week, Virgil Van Dijk shut down rumours that he had signed a new deal at the club. Mohamed Salah has also reportedly been offered a new deal by Liverpool, and he is considering the deal. Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Liverpool’s captain told the media after the Spurs game that all reports are ”absolutely wrong”:

”The only thing I’m focusing on is the game ahead of me, and I’m feeling good. I think everyone can see that, and what the future brings, at the moment, I’ve got no idea.

So anyone who says they know it, they are absolutely wrong. But we’ll see what happens.”

The reds have reportedly lined up a move for RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba. Sport Bild indicates that Liverpool are among a long list of clubs interested in signing the 22-year old. The report claims that Lukeba has a release clause worth £75million). Manchester United, Real Madrid and Chelsea have all been linked with the French youngster.

Transfer activity is good news for reds fans

After all the frustration from the January window. Liverpool fans will now be pleased that the club is actively working to improve the team. In the past few weeks, the squad’s depth has been tested. And the results have not been encouraging. It looks like Liverpool cannot rely on some players outside of the starting XI.

Arne Slot and the recruitment team have a lot ahead of them to find the best players to add to the squad. Liverpool can still end the season with a treble.
