Liverpool to end pursuit of €100M star

Liverpool have a long list of transfer targets this summer.

The reds plan to revamp the squad ahead of next season. Seeing how well Arne Slot has done this campaign has pushed the club to be ambitious in the market. Since the former Feyenoord boss took over, Liverpool have made only two permanent first team signings. That is set to change before next season.

Slot’s side extended their gap to 15 points on top of the Premier League last weekend. Liverpool will continue their treble push when they face Paris Saint-Germain midweek. The reds have a 1-0 lead from the first leg heading into Tuesday’s game.

Liverpool will reportedly have up to £200million for transfers in the upcoming window.

Arne Slot has reportedly asked for reinforcements in attack ahead of next season. The Liverpool boss does not want to go into next season with players he cannot rely on. Outside Mohamed Salah, the reds’ attackers have not been consistent this season. Diogo Jota has rarely been fit and available to play. Luis Diaz is yet to show a cutting edge in front of goal, and Slot has shown he is not a big fan of Darwin Nunez. All three players will be made available when the window opens.

Liverpool will target attackers with versatility and the ability to fit into Slot’s style. In the past few weeks, the reds have been linked with Alexander Isak, Joao Pedro and Matheus Cunha. But one player the reds will definitely not be signing anytime soon is Rafael Leao.

According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool will end their pursuit of the 25-year old. The AC Milan star will reportedly be available for a cut price fee in the summer. Leao was valued around €100million last summer, but his performances this season have drastically affected his stock. Jacobs, speaking exclusively with GMS, had this to say about Liverpool and Leao:

“Leao has never really pushed to leave Milan, and it makes it very difficult. My intel is there’s nothing advanced between Leao and Liverpool.”

Who do the reds target next?

Rafael Leao is no doubt a great player, but it looks like the club feel he is not worth the risk. With Isak possibly the major target up top, the reds need to find players capable of playing off the left. Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz have done a decent job in their roles but Liverpool need more quality there.
